met the meteors...

Past weeks have been a rush.
We have been playing a lot and I've been attending some concerts.

last saturday people of the "Hooifeesten" woke me up during my well deserved sleep to ask me If I would lend my bass to a band they had booked.
The bass of the band that was playing there was broken. At first I really wasn't eager to lend my bass to someone I didn't know. I tought "O hell why not"...

I deceided to drive to the festival with my girl and my bass :-).
This is where I got the news. It was "the Meteors" who needed my bass so I didn't hesitate.
I had a fun night and the Meteors are great people. They played a great show even tough the festival had a weird Drum and bass lignup before and after them. Cheers Guys! you guys where right! that music was definatly Shite!

last Night I saw "The Addicts" for the first time and I enjoyed the show.
great energy on stage and lots of fun :) It looks like those guys are sponsored by a carnaval store...

rockabilly music

well, in my honest opinion there is good music and shite!!

It seems that my favorite music is on a rise in Belgium.
Lots of organisers want "rock n roll" acts on their stage.

I guess it won't be long until the sharks get on the boat!

The Backbeat is back so let's hope that the music industry doesn't fuck it up.

Ps. With Rock 'n Roll I mean the real stuff not 70's-80's-90's or 2000's rock music the call rock and roll. If someone calls modern guitar music rock and roll he needs a punch in the face!. The one and only rock n roll music spirit died when the plane crashed and the three stars went to heaven.

April gig review

April started with rockin around turnhout...
Great gig 4 x 45 minute sets. It was quite fun playing there and there was a big crowd in the bar. a bit of people dancing, a lot of people boppin'. We sold a bunch of old demos... (remind me it is time for a new one. make it a full album this time) Note to self.. contact Mark

café vertigo in Antwerp. a descent gig but sitting audience. Just hate it... you don't have a clue what people are thinking they just bop their heads on the beat of the drum ( wich was a bit to loud for a small café). I rather see people moving and dancing... as a musician you just can't sniff the energy.

Then there was Leuven @ the blauwe kater. A very young audience and a big one. just love it!!!. we started playing and the crowd went moving and they didn't stop until we stoped :) GREAT!!!!!

Palieter café westerloo. descent gig... well played. but a small audience. To bad no more people showed up. Nice bar, Nice people.

Oerkroeg Schiller was another gig in ther row... Piere couldn't make it so this was a "Johnny and the valentines" gig. A 3 hours drive tookus to the HUGE BAR. There was a big crowd... unfortunately they came for the sun in the garden and we played inside... Sun - our band : 1-0. but they liked us a lot. so we will be back soon. When it's raining :)

Hooifeetsen preparty (caféweek) at café Titanic . A lot of young people in the bar. good reactions from the crowd. Singing and dancing people. Great gig. ( maybe we should trow over the playlist because the crowd came lose at the end.... )

past weeks / months

ok so here is the gap between the start of my band and the now.

My band is called Casablanca Carambol Company ( anyways I still ain't happy about that name)

Just needed to add that Jan Claes joined the ranks on guitars and Pieter vansteenbeeck joined on drums.

Since 2008 we are noticing a boost in gigs... we play about 5 a month

we played on the drive in barn (Oosteeklo in 2008)
we played supporting the seatsniffers

major gigs 2009:

Rockin around turnhout
Vertigo jazz cafe in antwerp
pre-party of the hooifeesten
Koninginendag in Aalten (NL)

If I forgot a big gig sorry... :)

we will be playing at
sjock festival (http://www.sjock.com/)
cruisemania
lier feest

....

Also added a my bassplayers blog

When I started pinstriping I made a blog about this to keep track of my progress.
While doing that I tought... why can't I just make one for my prime hobby wich is playing my big doghouse.

I'll just keep a diary on the gigs I play. Stuff I use. Songs I write. And lots more.

Quick reference on my past...

I first picked up the bassguitar when I was about twelve. Played the E-bass in a couple of bands growing up.

played in a punkband
played in a pop/rock band called "Blend"
played in a metalcore band called "In better days" we made it to 2nd best metalband on the Belgian concour.

In 2007 my life changed... As long as I can remember I've listened to Rock n' Roll / Rockabilly / Roots.
So I deceided to start a band with my best friend Jan Mortelmans. It had to be a rock n' roll / rockabilly band because we both just loved that music.

as from then I bought myself a doghouse and started learning. Blister after Blister ( as not knowing what I was doing I slapped my steels)
later I switched to Rotosounds but they sounded a bit to clicky for me.
At this moment I play FMI's rockabilly slap strings. the Golden ones but I kept my rotosound E string.

I have a K&K rockabilly pickup and a Hartke amp that needs replacement ;)

So nuff about my brief history ...
